A jubilee calls for flowers

A bouquet for your mum, a colleague and the boss are three different bouquets. Here is how to choose.

For mum or grandmother

Warm, homely flowers: peonies, spray roses, chrysanthemums, hydrangeas in soft tones. A number-symbol works beautifully: 55 flowers for a 55th birthday.

For a colleague

Cheerful neutral shades, 15–25 stems: gerberas, alstroemerias, spray roses.

For the boss

Restraint and status: tall deep-coloured roses, callas or anthurium in strict wrapping. For a male boss — a vertical bouquet in dark tones.

Three rules

• Odd number of flowers or an age-symbol number;
• order in advance;
• exact-time delivery before the toasts, not after.
